We are excited to announce the workshop “Imagining Interstellar Ice: Across Art and Science” scheduled 9-11 July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This meeting – composed as a collaborative effort between Leiden University and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro aims to bring together artists, artistic researchers and scientists to build a bridge between the work in the field of interstellar ice research to that of artists exploring themes of ice, astronomy, or art-science entanglements.
Through lectures, the possibility for performing on-site calculations, plenary discussions, artistic interventions, and the possibility for some art works to be exhibited, we will explore not only the formation and chemistry of ice in space but also the formation of interdisciplinary research practices across artistic and scientific domains.
The workshop aims to promote interactions amongst the participants, and we ask each participant to actively engage. We have space for 25 participants in total, spread between the domains of arts and science, and actively encourage participation by students by keeping several spots exclusively available for them.
We look forward to seeing some of you in Rio de Janeiro soon!
Best wishes,
